This is the first in a series of shots that take flight in the night at a park. Ironically the shots taken after dark were brighter than most ones taken in the daylight. —Mostly because the light was the subject for once. Plus post production illustrates the color saturated forms. Cameras catch the picture, frame the image and stay focused upon the subject. Natural light or artificial no matter… Photograph the light available from any source. End up with brighter colors in the dark because the light itself is THE subject, thus the contrast is higher at night then at the daytime. Now isn’t THAT ironic!?!
So I am in the process of applying for a nice little grant that will be very timely if received and will likely be the final financial windfall needed to effectively launch Flyhook Records in earnest, so here are some of my partners or possible board of directors in the not-too-distant future:
First of all gotta’ thank the aforementioned “Man Upstairs” for blessing me with the following people but here they are and the respective roles I envision them playing… not to pigeon-hole anyone of course, but I know most of these people quite well and at very least know their respective strengths…
First off my Brother Kory McCracken Esq. -He is the legal backbone behind me and will assist in getting an LLC form made official. Aside from putting the company on paper and helping with the taxes, as a scrupulous financial manager/consultant, his frugal monetary advice/wisdom is uncanny.
Next I’ve gotta’ go with my ABC: Daniel Shouse/D Swayze’. As my longtime friend and top performing artist whose tracks I will be selling online out of the gate, our loyalty to one-another is special. When we harmonize on songs and conceptualize together, magic does happen. He had me host a pair of hugely successful South Chicago hip-hop events back in 2008 which featured at least a dozen socially conscious artists from all over the country.
The Third face in a great triumvirate of leadership is my top producer; M Vincent Miller. -A former bandmate and Lincoln native who has been representing the Denver Arts Scene to a tee for the last few years, Vince is an incredible pianist, producer, programmer, writer and engineer whose talent has grown immensely over the last decade. There is no style of music that this young man cannot create with extreme depth and precision. His ear is to the streets both figuratively and literally and he is on the verge of managing a 3300 sq. ft creative space in the heart of the Denver Art District.
Temoer Terry could well be the financial face of Flyhook Records in the near future. A former All-American Wrestler @ the University of Nebraska, T-squared indeed defeated the National Champion in his weight-class in his college days. Now having been a multi-business owning entrepreneur for over Ten years, he has been involved in the import/export business in foreign countries such as; China, India, Brazil and Costa Rica since 2005. When in the States, he resides conveiniently in Nashville, TN.
Duane Harriott is a NYC DJ Par Excellence who is always in great demand the world over. Having done gigs for the likes of Sir Elton John in England among others, DJ Duane is about as deeply rooted in the New York City club scene as a body can be. Duane is as cool as the other-side-of-the-pillow when he tells you legendary stories about the celebrities he has even had to turn down at times. For instance…the time he had to tell his pal Lenny Kravitz he couldn’t go on tour with him ‘cause the 20 G’s he would have made over a six-month stint could not compete with his steady cash flow from playing out in the city…
Duane has worked on projects with Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake and N.E.R.D. most notably. Always modest, this friend of over Ten years is never fazed by chillin’ just below the surface in the hyper-competitive NYC music scene or rubbing shoulders with stars on the regular… His sister Deah is also a musical genius of sorts who has not only been playing piano since the age of Three, but currently leads the choir at Al Sharpton’s church in New York as well.
Duane can play any role he wants in terms of his contribution(s) to Flyhook Records but he is certainly going to be the leading consultant/tastemaker, recruiting co-ordinator, HR man and/or talent advisor. He is usually booked up 2-3 months in advance when it comes to his own gigs, but being tight with Peanut Butter Wolf of San Francisco doesn’t hurt, as Duane has both coasts on lock at the push of a button…modesty and a super work ethic are among his best qualities. He just finished a few re-mixes with the 90’s super-group ”The Black Crowes.” Having also formerly written articles for Elliot Wilson at the Source Magazine, D is truly a music guru/mogul. The only problem is he is so busy it is difficult to get face-time with him.
Another long-standing McCracken family friend who is worth his weight in gold within his particular realm is none other than Jason Levering. Jason was once roomates with my brother Kory in the late 90’s. Having his degree in Theatre Production from Hastings College, Jason is now one of the proud founders of the Omaha Film Festival! Now in it’s Fifth year, this Midwest Film Festival has begun to turn heads nationwide. Besides fielding nearly 500 entries, in the last year a staff member; Mauro Fiore won an Oscar for his cinematography on Avatar! Fiore sits on Jason’s Board of Directors. As does my brother Kory who still offers legal counsel. In 2006 I did audio for Jason which was used by the OFF. We also worked on another DVD in which he used my original material, it was for a semi-pro football team, The Omaha Beef!
This was an enjoyable result in taking these bird photos, but the pic does not do justice to how close I had to get to the birds in order to do so…it was fun though; creeping ever closer to them until the time they took flight!
Another bird in flight shot…not easy to do as far as keeping them in focus but these turned out pretty nice.
I really enjoyed taking these shots of the birds at Lake Michigan. After many attempts I finally got a few of the shots that I wanted.
Now just look @ that little guy…he’s so happy…my nephew. Chris & Rach-ee should be proud!!!
